    Hello there

I'd really like tips on this one . I'm about to launch a very cool , professional classifieds website , really well designed . The challenge I'm facing is .. How do websites like this get their initial ads ? See websites like www.gumtree.com or olx.com , how did they go about getting their initial ads ? How do I start getting the very first ads on my classifieds website ? Is it possible to contact gumtree.com and see if I can put some of their ads on my site to help them sell fast ? How would I go about contacting them ?
My classifieds website will service a whole continent and I am dedicated to be patient and work very hard .. I'd really appreciate all the tips to get my first content and spread the site . I think once I get the first content , then it will be easy to continue marketing it ... Thanks a lot in advance.

You can take the ads on other websites and put them on yours.

No one will ever complain about free advertising

Invite people to post ads for free through FB, linkedIn and forums ... Usually no one really trust the new classified sites, so give them some incentives to post ads for free (like some kind of free ebook or video "how to make money from classifieds" etc or something like this).. .. or advantages like "first 100 members to post ads will get maximum exposure for 7 days" (obviously they will get exposure because they are first to post ads )..

Use LinkedIn to drive targeted traffic to your classified site... join groups and share info about your classified - can also share ads..

    hope this helps

Ask your friends to post ads on your website, promote your website through AdWords if you have some money to invest in advertising...

Try Oodle. They have an API that can be integrated into your website. You'll need a little developer knowledge, but this is the easiest way to do it.

    Good luck,

Not sure what you mean. Do you want to figure out how to put ads on your site, or do you want to promote it? To promote it, you would have to promote it like any other site.

I am in the same predicament. I have thought of having a simple contest. First 20 people to post 5 ads with pictures, get X amount of money...
    How does this sound ?

Here are the instructions on how to use Oodle. You will need a little knowledge of API, but the thing I liked the best about this site is that they are pretty good at explaining things.

    http://www.oodle.com/info/partner/

One of Oodles partners' is Walmart. That will give you an example of how some of this stuff can look.

    Good luck,
    Jinger
