Broken links are text hyperlinks that typically links to another online document, such as a webpage, PDF file, video, Excel spreadsheet, etc. which when clicked doesn't lead to the correct destination. Broken links can include clickable image links and links to images. Broken links are links that lead to pages that do not exist. When clicking on a broken link, the page you land on is called a 404 error page, a standard HTTP response that indicates that the requested URL doesnÂ’t exist. A broken link is a link that doesn't work, often resulting in an error page. A broken link happens when the link points to a web page that has been deleted or moved.

Links which do not lead to any page are called broken links, sometimes it leads to a page which has been deleted. For your website to get easily indexed, try and reduce the number of broken links as much as possible.

A Broken Link is a link that is not valid anymore as a click on it doesn’t lead to the intended URL but to a 404 error page, page cannot be found. This can happen because of a typo in the HTML code of the target URL or because the page you intend to link to has moved or doesn’t exist anymore.Broken links in a website can lead to a downgrade of this site in the search engines which causes it to fall back in the SERPs. Hence a webmaster has to take care that all the links within his site are still valid. This can be an arduous task but fortunately there are webservices which can do this fast and with ease.

True, broken link is the link which is point to a page which actually does not exist. If you set a 404 page for your website, it won't be a problem much from the web master point of view.

There should not be any broken links on the website. It creates a bad impression on the website visitors. SEO master effort involves finding such links and removing or correcting them.
