If you are trying to do self hosted blogging, then better to have wordpress installed in it. You can customize it according to your needs. But if you are looking for free blog, Blogger will be the best for you.

Among all the free blogging platform, Blogger is the best. If you do not mind to pay about $100.0 a year, go with Wordpress- for hosting. And also, using self hosted Wordpress you will be forced to know more about website management, performance, security, backup and restore, etc. Do you have time, are you willing to learn? If any answer is no, go with Blogger !

Right now, I am using Wordpress. I am using it because it is more flexible and I have more control over my blog. It is always good to have a blog on a own web hosting.

Blogger is the best free blogging platform, if you do not want to pay. It is much powerful, flexible, easier to customize than the free-hosted limited-function Wordpress.com. (check the details here: Which Is the Best Free Blog/ Blogging Website, Blogger or Wordpress ).

The software Wordpress is free and great but you have to pay for Web Hosting to make it installed on. Also there's a learning curve for people to get familiar with software Wordpress.

    Summary:

Blogger is the best choice if:

    - you are new to blogging, or
    - you do not have time to learn a lot to make your blog running, or
    - you do not have finance support to pay for a website

    Otherwise, get the pay-hosted Wordpress.

I think Wordpress is much more better because of ability to get installed plugins.
Some of them are great - Akismet, Jetpack and new one from AtContent.
Akismet checks your comments against the Akismet web service to see if they look like spam or not.
Jetpack have really great amount of cool things.
AtContent plugin - really cool new thing. Help to get protection for your content and monetize reposts.

Highly recommend to use some of these plugins

    Cheers!

For me, my vote goes for WordPress because I used to blog on Blogger but there aren't a lot of premium features that I can easily use to modify my blog. Take the sidebar for example. In Blogger, I have to search for hours just to find the right html/javascript code. For me, it's a hassle. In WordPress, all I need to do is search for a good plug-in and that's it! Plus, there are a lot of free WP premium themes.
