    Blog commenting matters in two ways and can beneficial as well:

    If you are doing no follow blog comments it is mean that you can get referal traffic.

    If you are doing do follow blog comments you can get not only referal traffic but as well as a good link.

    I think blog comments are very helpful to rank your keywords because they are giving a number of back links to the websites. But don't like spammy commenting on non topic relevant blogs..:eek:

    In my opinion, blog comment is one of ways to increase your site's pagerank, and it is still good for SEO. As you know, Google always update its algorithm, so it need natural and fresh content now. Therefore, please use blog comment to increase pagerank by utilizing human blog comment manually.

    I also have clients who ask to delete comments, links and some content articles that have been made, because it is irrelevant walkin or inappropriate keywords that Google eventually targeting the wrong website for the keywords searched.

    Sorry but I am totally with you. As I have experienced with blog commenting I used to do comments on Latest updated blog post. From where I get 80% nofollow link and sometime 10-20% dofollow link. But when I do proper comment I get referral traffic. And I think this is a great way to do blog commenting.

    Comments are good for a site but they should be actively moderated or should be approved by the admin before getting published. They can contribute to the site in a positive manner. Use a plugin such as Askimet in WordPress for filtering spam.
