Tip on improve bounce rate on homepage?

Does anyone have any first-hand experience on how they improved the bounce rate of their site? I'm having problems with high bounce rates, especially with my homepage-- www.rawathletics.com. I do believe I am getting fairly targeted traffic, so I'm curious as to what you think the problem might be, and how you've personally fixed a high bounce rate on your site?

You need to establish why people are bouncing. One of the first things to do is check 1) which pages your visitors are landing on and 2) which keywords (or referring site).

Are the keywords relevant to the page?
For example, if people are searching for "how to remove bad carpet odours" and arriving at your page, then of course they are going to bounce. So, you then know you need to focus on improving rank for more specific keywords. As for referring sites, are they from a forum you're active on a lot and have it in your signature (or similar)? Then you best ignore that traffic, as it's a more out-of-curiosity visit than targeted.

Which countries are your visitors arriving from?
Google Analytics should be able to help you identify the countries... perhaps you're ranking in Google Australia (as an example) better than Google USA, so you then know you need to focus more on US local search rankings.

What do my visitors think of my home page?
Of course, it's difficult to find this one out, but the next best thing is ask friends, family, and anyone else you know (hopefully some of those people are also into sports), who know NOTHING WHATSOEVER about SEO and making websites, what they think of your website. Is it intimidating, easy to navigate, if they arrived at this page would they look further or leave, why, etc. SEOs and webdevelopers can be the worst to ask about this.

Before you make any changes to your site, it's very important to try to understand the reasons. If you're using Google Analytics (and it seems like it) then this will make it easier.

The above is by no means exhaustive, but intended as a starting point. Don't become too obsessed with bounce rate, though. (In the webmaster/SEO-world there are many obsessions to be encountered and sometimes they are pointless.)

Well, a couple of things I will say about your site: add a meta description (it's your chance to sell yourself in the search results and gives people an idea before clicking through), make the product images clickable so that they go through to the related item (people like to click images - ask your test subjects though what they think). You have a nice design there. If possible, allow customers to leave a review on the product page (and star ratings, you can use this in the search result if you make the rating a rich snippet). You can always do a follow-up email 7-14 days after the purchase asking them to, even offer x% off their next purchase (for example).

On the surface it seems a genuine good site (which is a refreshing change).

    Good luck.

It seems you need traffic more targeted towards what's on your site and/or to present the content in a more engaging way.

Part of the problem is that your homepage is just so informative about your product. After they read the information on the page they may have already made a decision not to buy and they check elsewhere. For some people all of that info may be overwhelming. Think in terms of what a customer looking to buy this products needs. Their eye is drawn to the bottle and the chart, but then there isn't much reason to click into the site unless they are ready to buy.

Personally I suggest switching the newsletter and testimonial sections. I doubt many people would subscribe to your newsletter, but many people would be interested in testimonials.

For High Bounce rate there are several reasons like low quality content of page, Site not opening properly, the traffic comes from search engine on different keyword which are not targeted on homepage. So study your site properly and see which are the main sources for your site, what are the flaws in your website.

Possibly add a plugin which presents them with a recommendation of something else to check out on the site, such as a related or popular post. There are several available which will slide out a picture/link when they get to the bottom of the page.

I think you need to check if the keywords you're targeting for the homepage are appropriate, and if the user gets the information they need off the homepage for their search keywords. For example, if I am targeting "get 6 pack abs" on my homepage, then I should have information on my homepage that gives the user information on how to get 6 pack abs. If they see that the page they got into does not contain information they need, then they leave.

Hope that helps. Have a good day!

Totally agree on this one. Visitors coming from search engines usually arrive to some inner post, find what they were looking for and leave. Showing them some more relevant info to be found on site, will keep them a bit longer.
There are a few plugins that can do that for you, I personally use one called Engageya, I'm very fond with it.
