    I don't think anyone here can give you a definite number on how many backlinks exactly. What's definite is you need a lot. You need more backlinks thank what your competitors have for their target keywords to outrank them.

    It is purely subjective to the sites linking to you. If you create just 5 backlinks and that of very high quality from related and high PR sites, you can raise your PR significantly. Conversely, getting dozens of backlinks from low PR and unrelated sites sometimes do not even inch your site up the PR ladder.

    Its all depend on high authority site with high page rank. Some time you just have build 3-4 links and you ranked 1st on google and sometime 200 backlinks not work. Its all because of domain authority and its quality. So, always focus to build quality backlinks instead of low.

    A definite number is not set, however, as long as you carry on building quality backlinks, you will have no problem with PR. It is useless to create low PR backlinks, as it will go against you eventually.
