Looking for dofollow forums is well and good but I think it would be more beneficial to look for a do follow forum within your site's niche. Search engines are looking for relevance now more that link juice.

Your main focus should never be to just increase your rankings (as far as forum & blog posts are concerned). Your focus should be on providing quality insight & information to drive traffic to your website.

People get too wrapped up in "SEO." They forget about the point of SEO: to get more traffic. Trust me when I say that by focusing on sending quality traffic, your rankings will increase naturally & organically. Not only that, but when Google comes out with another update you wont be penalized and shoved to the bottom of the rank list for it.

I agree. And pay attention. You might learn something. If you do short, shallow posts without any real understanding, you can get a reputation on that forum as just a spammer and no one will pay any attention to you.

Apart from the dofollow forums, do not miss out on the nofollow forums. The nofollow forums are mostly those of high quality and large amount of traffic and regular users. So your links would have no direct SEO benefit from the forum itself, but users would notice them and come to your site resulting in a conversion for you.
