Good content of course, but quality back links are the key. When I have time I spend 4 to 5 hours somedays just posting in forums. Then the next day I'll spend the same time answering questions on sites like Yahoo Answers, Answers.com and Answerbag.com and leaving my link. But don't answer questions to leave your link or you will get banned. I usually answer at least 20 questions before I leave my link so I don't look like I'm spamming.

I know it seems like a lot of time but getting one back link from Yahoo holds more value than 50 directory listings that no one has heard of. Here's the other stuff I do:

Article directories: Ezine only because it's hands down the best

Forums: I'm signed up to 3 forums with high PR. Post on a regular basis, but sure to post good stuff and not garbage.

Social sites: Digg, reddit, stumbleupon, yahoo buzz are the best in my opinion

Twitter: Master Twitter and it will pay off big

DMOZ and Yahoo: DMOZ is free but hard to get into, and Yahoo is paid. Both are a must if you can pull it off

Squidoo: Here's another site you need to master if you have the time. You can link to your site from lens you create. Not only are you getting backlinks, your getting backlinks from a super high PR site. A Squidoo lens also gets indexed a lot faster than a page on your website.

 

I think you have to do link building and article submission or link wheel, high PR sites with Do follow links...
