    This is pretty old thread... but figure I'll put in my pretty two cents- I think wordpress is great... but blogger is pretty cool too! blogger is part of google (I believe), so you can establish an adsense account and earn some $$ through adsense. In order to run ads in wordpress you have to pay money for upgrade...

    You will find that most people use WordPress or Blogger. They are both great because they both start off costing you nothing out of pocket. WordPress is probably has the best community. The blogging world has really grabbed a hold of the concept so now there are literally hundreds of great plugins that will make your site look like a professional website.

    I use wordpress is always best and also blogger and for my indonesian i use blogdetik its also from wordpress
    and one more tumblr is also good. those are my favorites

    You are having lot of platforms to create blogs. But it depends on your knowledge and awareness. If you are completely newbie and start a blog then blogspot is better. Then after wordpress with self hosted, after that you can start a PHP based website including blog in your site. If you get awareness of this blogging then you can move forward as per your wish. Each person is having their own knowledge and experience in using their blogging platform. We can just share our experience but cant say exactly whether you can impletement it for yourself or not. So, after getting reviews for members try to join all the free blogging platforms like blogspot and wordpress. Then after go on your own way check which one will be comfortable for you...
