Changing the meta tag does not going to effect the page ranking of the site.

On-page optimization refers to factors that have an effect on your Web site or Web page listing in natural search results. These factors are controlled by you or by coding on your page. Examples of on-page optimization include actual HTML code, Meta tags, keyword placement and keyword density.:)

I don't think that will affect your website's ranking , because PR is based on the quality of your website content , good structuer and backlinks from authority relevant sites with high ranking . Just try to make your changes effective to boost your ranking in google's eye .

Changes of meta tag will not instantly affect your rank in search engine but it will affect slowly to change your rank. I think you should better have a look of this site first -

No your description meta tag has nothing to do with your page rank so will not affect it pagerank depends on how many backlinks your site has and their authority and other factors (like how they got gained) affect such things

    Here is a tip

Search for the search term you have targeted and see what "description" Google is displaying. Bear in mind Google pulls the description not only from the tag but on page with relevance as the main factor.

So take the description Google have used for your search term and copy and paste it for your meta tag.

Then look at it and refine it further (EG edit it) in order to improve it further for your target word(s) phrase(s) and you will be improving things for your page and helping the search engines to.

Nothing will happen to your page rank at all from your meta decsription as unless it prompts authority linkers to link you naturally the two things are not dependent on each other in any way I know of...

I think that it does not so affect on page ranking. Basically page rank depends on quality back links. If you are changing the meta tags like keywords it can be affect.
