I have site and it is pr-4 top 3 position but old site. I need to re optimize my titles. Most of my sub pages is pr-4. I want to do it for top 1 position. Change title in this stage will it harm my ranking or SERP?

It can go either way. If you have done good keyword research and come up with improved titles, you will stand a good chance of going up in the SERPs. If you haven't done good keyword research, who knows? You could end up going up, down, or stay the same.

Remember, though, that Google does title rewriting anyway (just check the list of updates they release every month or two). Don't worry/obsess about your title, other than write a good one for humans.

Remember, too, that the title is (along with good content) the single most-important facet of on-page SEO.

Jim is right that it is important, but don't let this stress you or worry you too much as it is also very important that you don't screw it up by:
    - over-optimising
    - becoming overly-obsessed
    - writing it for algorithms rather than humans
    - stuffing in too many keywords

(As examples, it's not an exhaustive list, but you get the idea.)

Write down a list of titles (70 characters max, concise, accurately describe the content, keep it relevant, use a meaningful set of words rather than just a chance to "keyword drop"), include your current one, and get some completely non-SEO aware friends/family members to read them and choose the best one. They are more likely to pick one good for humans, which has become very important now. Remember, the updates now are very, very much about over-optimisation. And this is what has more of a chance to effect your placement negatively. There are never guarantees though - any change always has the chance of an up or down movement or sometimes even not at all. Even if you do notice a dip at first, it's not necessarily permanent.

I don't think it will affect the ranking as long as the main keyword still present in the title.

Hi, Title are more important in on - page If you want to change title you can do it, you can find titles from Google adwords tool..
But Keep in mind Don't Repeat same keywords in one title it is keywords stuffing. ..

Good Example of Title :- SEO | SEM | Social Media - Company Name. ( include 63 to 70 characters )

    Jim and ryan good discussion..
    thanks

I agree, always remember that while you are optimizing your title for SEO, you are also writing for an audience and you would want that audience to click on your title instead of others on the list. Make sure to make your title compelling and interesting and place your target keywords as close to the start of the title as possible.

Hope that helps. Have a good day!
