Suggest a Good Webhost Please

Selecting a good host seems to be herculean task. Considered GoDaddy, but their core competency lies with domain registration (at one time had about 10-15 domains with them), next considered hostgator as they seem to be one the best. Tried to contact them yesterday night using the live chat but there was no response at all (I had accessed the India site, and not the dot com one) then finally gave up. Came across some others like manashosting, unlimitedgb and a few others but the no. of negative feedbacks simply put me off. Am now considering going back to my old host infrenion.com which never gave me any problem. They were always there, sorting out issues, replies to queries and installing whatever script I asked them to. The only drawback seems to be the 4GB space limitation, which may not be sufficient with the site I'm planning to put up. Came across a couple other names here itself (Znetlive and HioxIndia). Both of them are consideration but am looking for some feedback before taking the plunge. One major issue in deciding against GoDaddy was that they don't have a live chat feature, which in my opinion is a must have. Who knos when your site goes down for whatever reason. 24/7 chat support is a must have.

I am looking mainly at an Indian webhost, the primary reason being more accessible. If its from Bangalore where I stay, more better. Can consider hosts located elsewhere also if they have live chat feature. Apart from being fast access to chat and phone, having servers based here makes sense as it would ease the site load time as my site would primarily focus to local visitors.

Would be grateful for some help.

Anil - I have always used GoDaddy to buy domains and Hostgator to host them - no problems whatsoever. I agree with what you say about GoDaddy's core competency and would say the same for Hostgator in terms of hosting. I found Hostgator's live chat to be second to none so most surprised you didn't get a response!

I agree with you about the hostgator live chat. In the past whenever I got in touch they always responded and I never felt I knew more than them, they always had answers to whatever issued I raised. Maybe it had something to do with the local site. So far I had used GoDaddy for the domains and infrenion for the hosting. This time want to consider others as well. In my opinion webhost is more important issue than the domain registrar. Your very well-being depends on their being up and running and without any issues, and approachable 24/7.

GoDaddy is not good for web hosting. Just use them only for domain registrations.
I think Hostgator India and Bigrock are good web hosts for India.

I personally use Eleven2, never had a problem with them.
EZPZ Hosting is also great, they are UK based but also have US servers available.

As for Godaddy, it is a perfect domain registrar, but not so good at providing hosting services.
That is why hosting experts sometimes do not recommend Godaddy as it may suspend your domain or hosting account one day without any notice. One more example can be found via the links:
According to in 2010 Godaddy suspended 150,000 websites that were “found to be engaged in illegal or malicious activity.” Quite a huge number of domains with illegal contents on their sites, but were all those suspensions correct? Who knows, may be, but the reputation of the hosting despot was given to Godaddy by its customers.

Speaking about Hostgator, we can't but mention their support and its response time. So, WebhostingWatch analysed the quality of the company support using 3 types of communication: live chat, phone and email and the results are the following.

There is no menu at the beginning of the call, though it can be still understood how long you have to wait until the suport answers. Here are some interesting cases: 2 operators not knowing the answers asked us to wait a little and went some other place to get a consult, another operator (probably a newbie) apart from the answer, gave a lot of unnecessary information.

    Live chat
The connection to the operator is very slow - about 10 minutes. The chat software is not perfect, it stops working sometimes. The answers are not worth the time spent waiting for the connection, as they are template made and are answered with long pauses during the chat. The competence is by far not the best, neither is the politeness. Once we talked to a very incompetent operator, he lacked attention, answered slowly, finally suggested us to email another department and to get an answer from them within 24 hours. Though, the next day, there was already another operator which answered faster and providing more details.
    Email
The Email Support left a better impression - 7 letters out of 10 were answered. All the answers show attention to details, are informative and correct.
    Call Center
It takes some time until they connect you to an operator. The operators are all native, can answer all the questions giving clear instructions. They speak in a fast tempo, but the speech is clear.

Selected and bought the domain, from who else, GoDaddy!I think I may choose the hosting from one of them:Hostgator (becaue they seem to be well known, though they also have so many complaints against them)HostingRaja (could find the least amount of negative feedbacks, either they are new or really good)BlueHost (both positive and negative)HioxIndia (both positive and negative)Znetlive (both positive and negative)and probably manashosting (but they seem to have to many negative feedbacks). Their plan seems good, and CC called many times.Somebody who's used these may be able to throw some light.

Visited them. Though the bandwidth they offer is tremendous, the space is slightly on the conservative side.

Preferably India as it may be faster to load, if not the firm, then at least the servers. Since my site would primarily be with photos and videos (its related to travel), it makes sense. It also gives me the option of making calls.

But am open so far. Two important requirements though; ample space with decent bandwidth, and live chat accessible 24 hours.

Dreamhost is good, as is Bluehost and Hostgator. All have hosted plans that are pretty easily upgradeable if you need more bandwidth.

If you are located in India, there is no need to buy hosting from India and you think that in this case the the site will have a higher load average. Order your server in any country and just set CDN for your site and your site will be available from different places of the world and the speed in this case will be the same in each place.

A content delivery network (CDN) is a group of servers, located in different countries and connected to a single network. The system is configured in the following way: your site visitors are granted access to the site data copy from the server which is the nearest to them. With CDN your site pictures, text, files, audio and video streaming media will be loading quicker for the users from different places and the server load on the main server will be decreased.

The main benefits of CDN technology are:

    • Rapid site loading speed from any place of the world
    • Server overload decrease on the main server

    • a lot of servers ( at least 40-50) all over the world keep your site contents
    • SEO positions escalation in search engines
    • Suitable for all popular CMS systems

Good comparison, I have just checked it on your blog.

Speaking about Bluehost, we should say that this is a typical, supposedly unlimited, shared hosting provider. BlueHost hosting company is the perfect solution for small websites, but think twice if you plan to choose it for big projects.

WordPress recommendation and Anytime Money-Back Guarantee is definitely a plus, but Hosting security problems and Bad attitude towards users is not the company advantage.

The main company pros and cons will be given below:

    [h=3]Pros:[/h]

    [h=3]Cons:[/h]
    • Low security against hacking (PHP settings error) (complaint at www.webhostingreviews.com)
    • Hosting may cancel subscriber's account without prior notice for storing archived files (ToS)
    • Doesn't provide backup; not responsible for data loss (ToS)
WebhostingWatch specialists analysed 200 sites in order to find out the real uptime rate of Bluehost hosting company. The results of the investigation can be see on the next picture:
