If I can remember correctly, you need to post 10 posts then only can you submit "live links". But you also need to be careful when submitting links. Always making sure the post is relevant to the linked page and that it adds value to the linked page. Not stupid comments like "you've got a beautiful website", then you link to a store selling shoes! Those links won't work and will be a drag on your website and needless to say an algorithm target for Matt Cutts and his cyber pet Penguin.

A helpful answer to your fellow member's inquiry or adding value to the forum thread by sharing relevant information goes a long way in gaining recognition in the forums which leads to more traffic to your site over time.
