Tips for getting approved for Google News?

    Hi guys,

Do any of you have any tips to get approved for Google News?

Is now a good time to apply for my site? It's been going for over 9 months and has a number of unique writers and fresh content daily.

Or do you think I should wait a little longer? Any tips would be appreciated!

    Thank you for your time.

    Regards,
    Ross.

Here are two tips to avoid being rejected when you submit your site:

    - Do not fill your site with articles that are event announcements or advertisement about brands.

    - Have news type articles on your site.

    Here are a few tips:

    1. Ensure that you add news-related articles regularly to your website.
    2. Your articles should be around 300-500 words to play it safe.
    3. Be sure not to promote certain products or services exclusively on your website.
    4. Do not make use of article spinners or writers whose grammar is not correct.
    5. Your content should be unique and not copied or changed from another website.
    6. Try to stick to a niche or your niche. Google News do not like 'General' news sites. It is difficult to get them approved.
    7. Your articles should be news related and not consist of 'How-To" or 'Hints and Tips" related articles.
    8. Ensure that you have a page ready where you list the information of all your writers / contributors.
    9. Also ensure that you have a Contact page with your information, such as address, phone numbers, email addresses, etc.
    10. If you write news, ensure that you credit sources where you get information from in your articles.

Now is probably a good time to apply for Google News. Closer to December they work on skeleton staff. Every year they announce that it will take longer to approve/decline submissions. Last year we waited from end November until February this year to hear from them. So, if you can do it now, you should get a fast reply.

IMO anybody who has experience of writing press releases may get successful submission over Google news.

Most of Onlinestartups tips are perfect -

The one I would say is a bit off is the "around 300-500 words".

They don't require that many. I ask my writers to make articles a minimum of 200 words. It depends a lot on your content and your own editorial standards though.

One more thing not mentioned here - you can follow all the guidelines and still not be included - a major factor will be if the reviewer thinks that Google News is better off having your site included than not having it included. Does your site add value to the news index - that's one of the hardest hurtles to overcome.

Other critical factors would include good grammar (if it looks like writers learned english as a second language, forget about it) and no tips/advice.

To get approved by gnews, you have to have quality, worthy content. My advice: find other way to make money.

Make sure your post should be a news not a brand promotion.
