So I have a blog called Conquer Boredom, What to Do When Bored and I checked my google analytics stats and I get some search engine traffic but not for my keywords. For the keywords that I do rank in I am usually on the second page maybe the first (for keywords "conquer boredom") but not for my most targeted keywords "what to do when you're bored". For those I rank 510th even though I have that phrase many times in the blog and even in the title. I have plenty of back links so that's not the issue. My guess is that individual posts get better rankings than the blog itself so is that the case? If not than what is?
Google tries to rank the post that are really informative. That means the posts speak to itself on what to rank. Why is that? because Google like to rank a post that is not made for search engines but for human.
Make sure your blog is not over SEO optimized i.e. keep your keyword density low and also try to get more backlinks with anchor text for your desired keyword for your home page + posts/inner pages, make sure you keep the ration between desired keyword + general anchor text 1:1 general anchor text = "click here", "more info", "exact url" etc...
