Keyword density should be 3 percent for a 500 words article and try to get quality backlinks for your site.
Avoid keyword stuffing cause it hurts search engine rankings.

Are meta tags still needed, i read that they are no longer even seen by google crawlers so theres no point putting them in you should just write good content?

Keyword stuffing is basically..........suppose you are promoting keyword "good hotels in europe" then the keyword "hotels in europe" is by product of earlier keyword so no need to promote this "hotels in europe"......just promote the main keyword it will automatically get optimized

 

Agree with most of these comments, I try to get around the 2% level for a desired keyword.

I think the best thing is to write content that makes sense, forget about the keyword density at first.

Then analyse your content and adjust it slightly for your main keyword. 2 - 3 % is a good place to be!
