    Hi,

I would like to redesign my site as I have not touched it in about a year now and have learned alot since then.

Which comes to the change of the logo, Currently it's not a bad a logo but I would love to have an awesome unique logo for ther name Gffects or Even just the G, I have moderate skills in photoshop, illustrator and fireworks but unfortunatly I have avoided the pen tool as it just hates me.

any tips from you pros out there on how to achieve a great logo or brand even, other than downloading typography faces and high contrast.

    Thanks in advanced

Designing logos is just like any other type of design work, even a great idea can be ruined by not thinking about simple things:
    - Keep it readable
    - Don’t use more than 2 fonts
    - Test sizes
    - Adapt it for dark backgrounds
    - Don’t include photos in your logo

I understand all the rules when working on such a project it's the ability to take a letter or a word and make it really stand out and be different.
Making a background or a header for a website is easy but a logo is a whole other world to me lol.
And that's even with understanding the theory behind composition and user interfaces.

check out branding and logo mark books... can help... here is some general tips tho...

    1. define your brand.. what does your company do? who does your company want as clients ?
    2. fine your competitor.. try to find the brand statement...
    3. draw thumbnails fast not to much detail. you don't want to get stuck on to a idea...
    4. talk to customers do a persona user case...

Remember your designing for your clients not you!!!

I think you need have some kind of uniqueness in the "H" so that people will recognize it is your logo. Then add some kind of shining effect to make it even better.
