Is “to ping” your website effective/useful?

    I read that "to ping" your website is good because Search Engines like Google will index it faster. Is this true? What is your experience on this matter? Is there a chance that this practice be considered spam or seo "black hat" technique?

    Basically - Yes, pinging is perfectly safe. I always ping my website when I change the META description or a Page title or have a new page and want it to index quickly. Usually my pages are indexed/updated within 12 hours

    It seems to be a way of making your website notify Search Engines that there has been a change in it's contents and the SE should index or re-index it... I'm not sure exactly how that works. There are some services online that you can use to do this, like pingler (dot) com.

    Whenever I post something related with my site like content, backlinks I ping those post/backlinks for faster indexing. There is no effective reason to ping the home page only.

    Yes, Ping is safe for SEO. This is one kind of "White Hat" technique.

    I think the questioner is referring to a feature built into some blogging platforms where the search engines are pinged whenever the blog is updated. I've never seen the point of this, as the engines will find the updates on their own. But it's generally done automatically, so I suppose there is no reason not to do it.

    If its pinged too often then its not good of course and can be harmful. Nowadays when a lot of changes happening with google, i try to stay away from pinging too, google will find your links anyway, and when you keep pinging on every small update many times a day it may do more harm than good, im not sure but i suspect it to be like that.

    Pinging and indexing scheduling is a lovely addition to any SEO plan.

    It's a great way to make sure that pages get indexed, even if the sitemap isn't being crawled properly

    Everything should be in moderation, and do not make it too frequent. If you are using wordpress, I believe, there is an option to add ping services.
