I also use Windows XP. But until yesterday when it upgraded to service pack 3, it was on service pack 2. But it runs much faster and better now after the upgrade. I use it because it is one of the best Microsoft client operating systems and device drivers are readily available. It has stood the test of time.

I have WinXP on my laptops and any time I get a new computer, I install WinXP on it. For a long time I refused to upgrade from Win 98. That's right Win 98! hehe. That was because there was a particular version of musician software that I liked that was only compatible with Win 98. It was just a good piece of software; so was worth keeping Win 98. But I wanted WinXP, too. So what I ended up doing was setting up both O/S on my hard drive (dual operating systems). But I eventually let Win 98 go.

I have used Win 7 but I don't like their start menu and the folders on the hard drive where it shows the location. It has like some breadcrumb effect going on. I don't like it. It takes some getting used to. I don't know what else it can do that I can't already do with WinXP. What I don't like is that somehow some webmasters are updating their sites in such a way that WinXP users are sort of x-ed out of the equation. For example, I went to a mobile service website I had been going to for years and when they did their site makeover, all of sudden I started having issues logging into my account with them. I started up a relative's computer that also had WinXP and same issue. I started up another relative's computer that had Win 7 on it and I was able to log into my account and navigate around my account without any issues at all. And I tried it on my tablet and I was able to log into my account and navigate around without issues on that, too. Mind you, I ran all of these tests using the same internet connection and with the same IP address. So I concluded the site makeover was no longer compatible with WinXP. What gives?! Did I complain to the webmaster of that mobile site? I did and well they didn't care. So I mean I'm glad I have a tablet, because I don't want to upgrade to Win 7 or newer.

Bottom line: I'm so used to WinXP and like I said, it gives me exactly what I need, so I see no point to upgrade.

Moreover, your functionality in websites has more to do with your browser version than it does your OS; however given that applications aren't usually developed with legacy operating systems in mind and markup languages aren't developed with legacy browsers in mind the IT market will leave behind anyone who is not willing to stay with the times.

Didn't Microsoft stop support for Win XP this year? Won't that affect you if you have a problem with your computer? I've got two computers at home: a refurbished computer that I bought a few months ago. It has Windows 7 on it but it came with Windows XP. My desktop, the one that I use to work, has Windows 7 on it.

I'm borrowing a laptop right now since my own was broken. This laptop is using Windows 7, which I personally absolutely hate.

On my old laptop, I used Windows XP and was able to do everything on it. This laptop just makes me feel limited, it performs slowly even after clean-ups of the computer and unneeded files and generally I find the Windows 7 platform very hard to navigate.

If I had my choice, every computer I will ever use will use Windows XP! :D

Old XP user, at the moment Windows 7, I don't have plans to change to Windows 8 (Well, also I'll need new license for that), looks nice for tablet PC/touchscreens though. :)
    P.S. By oldest also, Win98 ftw! :D
