How do I promote my website, increase traffic to it and get more backlinks?

I'm in a moody situation now. I mean the traffic just doesn't seems to be increasing at how it really can. I've done all sorts of things to help, write and post quality contents about everyday, submit my website to directories, search engines and many other ways, but it just doesn't seem to help? I really don't know what to do. Please tell me how do I increase more traffic and backlinks. Thank you.

This is my problem also. Doing a lot of exercises to get traffic. But that is dis-appointing. Traffic exchanges gives traffic. But what is the use of that. Visitors are coming and going like a ritual.I don't like TE traffic.

 

Monetizing my blog isn't the primary thing and deal I want to do now. I just wish to increase traffic.
