    I run a few tumblr photo blogs which are all becoming popular..

    Can I place adsense on these type of blogs?
    They all mainly consist photos. No text content, video content,links,etc,etc. Just photos.

    good question, but I'm not sure because as you know the google robot can't read pictures and therefor you have no content in the eyes of google

    I think you may well get an email from Google telling you to take the ads off (if they're in a good mood). How can you expect to make money from a context based ad system when there is no context?

    First add some content, after that you can place any ad on your photo blog.

    You will be fine if all the photos are accompanied by text content about the photo posted.

    Instead of having subdomain at tumblr, you should buy a domain and point it to your tumblr blog. Can also add the captions or descriptions to the photos would be nice too!

    Yes you can. At first you need to have both text and photos. Having only the photos doesn't work. Then it should be a top level domain and don't use copyrighted material, or else your account will be disapproved or banned.
