    I love Elegant Themes' "Flexible" although it's a paid theme. "Fullscreen" is my favorite free one.

    We use Thesis wordpress theme a lot. It's simple but it also has a lot of possibilities if you're a little bit into html/css.

    It depends on how you want to make money. Do you want to have a functional website that offers coupons or business listings or classified ads? Do you want to make money off of ads on a simple blog? Do you want to sell something?

    What you want to do significantly changes the theme that you should use. I'm more than happy to help you find one if you can narrow in on what you'd like to do.
