    As now on Google trying to change algorithm every month instead 1 year or two..

    Sure, it helps to diversify the types of backlinks, and you can use it to diversify your anchor text as well. Use 1 different title and description for 50-100 directories.

    Alone it won't get you to page one, but it will help. The nice thinga bout them is you can do a lot at once. The directories can take from 24 hours to 18 months to approve your links. You are not getting a bunch of backlinks at once.

    I think directory submission is the best way to bring a huge diversity in the backlinks ( IP, Domain Type, Titles etc ). And as stated by mbaldwin, you are not going to get those links approved instantly. So it will look very natural to Google.

    I think yes. you need to select directories has good rank and offering you a free link...its is one the recommended way to create back links..try out and hopw you will get enough links..
