The question is: Enough for what? I routinely rank articles/blog posts just from the keywords in the title, and nothing else. But when you are looking for the most traffic and the most trust from Google, you want to try to get around 500 words in your posts and articles.

For articles I place directly on my personal blog/money sites they have to be at 1,000 words.

Articles used on Tier 1 links are at least 500 wordds

I always use 1000 word articles, and at least 5 of them on each website. I use them to put a backlink directing to my money sites. I find that google rates these very highly. If you find it hard to write a 1000 word article (like me!), look on fiverr.com etc. for cheap writers.

if you are posting on your own blog, you are free to post as much as you want. some posts can be 200 words and some might be 1000+ words. you should not limit yourself to a fixed number of words per post. that is not natural. different topic will require different amount of words to make it a good post. if you are to rank a post for certain keywords however, 500 words should be minimum. when it comes to ranking, more content the better.

regarding article marketing, different article directories have different submission guidelines. as a rule of thumb, i always use 500 words articles for article directory submission as a majority of article directories have that 500 words standard.

I think a 200 word article even if its a high quality article is not enough for it to be ranked well in search engines. As for experience, I make sure all my articles to be more than 450 words with at least 1-2% keyword density.

sultanofseo i can relate to 500 words as crawlable keyword density using 2000 words or more - would be enoughf to c all on the Bots to spider

I agree with 5000 or more: at the same time most article directories require 350 or more: now that saying somthing professional about seo - sites like www.ArticleBase.com 350 at least......

In my point of view you should give at least 500 words. because you need to show your Blog briefly and give a brief and appropriate description to the sites. so it will be more efficient to post 500 words. you can post below 500 as it has no barrier to post some exact words of numbers. thanks.

I think Quality is again the key than the Quantity. If you can pass on value within 200 words of your informative content.
