Repost. Sorry I jumped the gun Admins. :(

Do you guys think this will be good or bad for those of us using hostgator? I have been with Hostgator for several years with no issues. Let's hope it stays the same.

I think it is bad. Now, hostgator will be same as other EIG owned web hosting such as Fatcow, iPage, Bluehost.

Hopefully the quality will maintain but when business are bought and sold there is often changes and unfortunately, I can see quality being decreased

Let's see what is going to happen.
    What alternative hosting providers there?

It's actually bad. HG used to be one of the good hosts that did overselling right. AIG is a big money hungry company that doesn't care about customers, cares only about profit.
I actually see a lot of people migrating away from HG to smaller hosts in the following months.

You can never do overselling right. I had test accounts on HG servers, and loads were as high as 90 regularly, on 4 and 8 core processors. No...that's not a typo. There were spikes where the loads went well over 110 and the entire server was crashing. This happened regularly across multiple servers. "Unlimited" disk space? I was hitting barriers at 60-120GB where the entire server would simply crash, and not take any more data.

If that's proper overselling, I want no part of it.

I think it is good and also very mind catching matter. I really liked it. But we can not know the inner facts.

EIG is the devil. If you look at any of their companies, they're all just ran completely into the ground regardless. EIG just wants a massive customer base to rake in profit, they don't care about how they get it or who they screw over in the process. It's bad business and even worse ethics, but that's how capitalism works.

Many customers are migrating from HG to other hosting providers. Is it good or bad, we will have to wait for some more time to find out. The EIG group is known for acquiring the big companies and it also true that support gets hampered too with EIG. Any idea why Brent Oxley took this decision?

He had 250 million reasons to make the decision he made. :D $250 million for the sale.

Was it the money or the pressure which forced him to took this big step? ;)

Only he can answer that. If it were me, the $250 million would be plenty of reason to sell. :D The company was going downhill anyway, and if you looked around, there were quite a few complaints surfacing. With the company already going downhill and that kind of offer on the table, it would be an easy decision to make.

He had also mentioned that he wanted to travel with his family. I believe he has a wife and possibly a kid or two, though I don't remember exactly.

I have also read about HG going downhill. Big client base, less profit margin and the overall expenses were pretty high. These seems to be the main reason, it was a smart move by Brent I would say. ;)
