What type of forum should I make?

So I own a vbulletin license, and I have a steady stream of money already coming in to pay for the server as well as necessary advertising. The one thing I am trying to decide is what the topic of the forum should be. I have three ideas: 1.) general forum about everything, but to differentiate it from other general blogs, there will be contests and prizes for those who are active. 2.) a gaming forum with all platforms 3.) a technology forum, with contests and such.

I'm really excited to get started, but I don't wanna get started unless I get a plan down first. So what do you guys think? I'm welcome to all suggestions and even name suggestions.

If your goal is to make money out of your community, you have to do some research on which niche pays the most, and if you are able to handle that. Usually the medicinal / health pays the most, but very few are able to write about it.

I would go with #2 or #3, as in my opinion there already are too many general forums.

    Good luck!

It should be on a topic you have an interest in, because getting a forum off the ground is hard work.

so why ask the question? you know better then us what your interests are. if your focus is only on making money you are setting yourself up for failure.

If it's a choice between a gaming forum and technology forum, I would go for the gaming forum. This is because I prefer games over technology and nothing more. Either way, I think you can make money off the forum by running ads on the site and such. Don't have a "general" forum. I think that's like inviting spammers.

Hope that helps. Have a good day!

You can start with a forum topic which is in demand by internet user. Topics can be health related like home remedies for acne, sore throat remedies.

you should create a forum in which you have little bit experience. because admin's knowledge always attracts members. and if your forum gets listed in google search then those topics, which you will be positing, would have great importance.

Yes, something you see yourself actively participating in, in 5 years. You should be the one with the most posts on your forum. At the start think of it as just another blog/website and post threads by yourself, no need to create fake users and post from multiple accounts, just post, talk alone, and people might come and participate, it's like if they're commenting on a blog post, except they have to register and become a member. Then talk to everyone, like it is a bar and you're the bar-tender / owner.
So obviously you need a topic you can talk about for hours.. And this I don't know what it is for you.
