    Just install Joomla and go from there. There is an installation guide on joomla.org, and if you're a newbie just work on a live site without bothering with XAMPP.

    After you install, choose a template and install it. Add content. Add extensions.

    Of course you can find tutorials for Joomla 1.5 but Joomla 1.5 will will reach its end of life this September and Joomla 3.0 will release. Don't waste your time on Joomla 1.5 because you can't find support in the future. It's better for you to get start with Joomla 2.5 or Joomla 3.0.

    For now, it's difficult to find a detailed tutorial about Joomla 3.0, just only blog post. You can have a look at some below blogs to know about it:
