Best way to rank #1 fast?

Area is not too competitive, PR4's and 5's in top 10.

I would guess the purchase of a PR6 from TDNAM.com, some good unique content and SEO would do it?

Would this work and if so what time scale are we talking about?

    Thanks all!

When is next PR update, and the fact that the website has been down for 6 months, does this cause a problem?

Groan!!! How long is this error going to persist among Digital Point members?

http://www.google.com/technology/ — PR does have something to do with SERPs rankings. For example: "PageRank continues to provide the basis for all of our web search tools."

Firstly just because they are PR4/5s doesn't mean you are going to walk in there and grab top spot. Buying a link from TDNAM.com may help ... "somewhat" ... but stick to old fashion SEO work (get links, optimize content, etc) and if the area is not too competitve and the top 10 serps aren't optimized then you should break the top 10 - other than that - don't be quick to judge.

    Good Luck
    :)

Jim its not an error! If you are going to quote, don't just quote that 1 sentence and take it out of its context. Also maybe spend a little bit of time search the forums and you will find some VERY LARGE threads around this with some very good information.....

Groannnnnn!!!!! .... how long will it taken people to realize the PR isn't what its cracked up to be???

I think I'll continue to believe what Google says about its own PageRank, rather than large threads in forums posted by people who, to their own peril, choose to disagree with what the originator of PageRank says about it.

No idea. Individual anecdotal situations can be brought forth to prove or disprove virtually anything. PR is not the only factor, but Google says it is a factor, and (see below) they seem to say it's a pretty important one.

Quite frankly, as a webmaster in a competitive market, I’ll be quite happy if all the other webmasters ignore the backlink/PR factor. That will simply help me rank above my competitors by continuing not to ignore PR.

Again, I’m far less interested in what thread posters say about PR than what Google says — for example, “Important pages receive a higher PageRank and appear at the top of the search results”, as found at http://www.google.com/corporate/tech.html. That's a pretty straightforward statement — Higher PageRank —> appear at the top! Why should that not matter?!!

I’m perfectly happy if other webmasters persist in having a mental block about this. That can only help those of us to whom PageRank matters, because (to repeat what Google has stated), “Important pages receive a higher PageRank and appear at the top of the search results”.

For what it’s worth anecdotally, I have devoted much time and energy to securing backlinks and the resulting PR increase. This in turn (per Google above) has helped me rank highly in Google. As of today, I have a PR5 website with 21 keyword phrases appearing on Google’s first page. These are not insignificant KW phrases. According to WordTracker/Overture, these phrases receive anywhere from 25 to over 1,000 daily searches on the internet.

Ok, when you get a high PR, probably will help you with link exchange. Not at all in SERPs

Then why does Google say: "Important, high-quality sites receive a higher PageRank, which Google remembers each time it conducts a search." — http://www.google.com/technology/

and ... "Important pages receive a higher PageRank and appear at the top of the search results." — http://www.google.com/corporate/tech.html

Google says PR counts in the SERPs. Why do posters say otherwise? I'm baffled.

Jim4767 - I totally understand where you are coming from and as a senior member here on DP I respect your comments and feedback.

The example I gave you was a random example, yes plucked out of thin air and used "page rank" as the example but I could pull out endless examples in whatever niche.

The answer to my question Jim is that Google PR algorithm is flawed! Webmasters have mastered how to game Google to get listed in in top of SERPs.

I don't believe that accumulating 1000s of links from different sources, paid or non paid - make you an "important" or "quality" site. Google seems to think so and thats the whole problem.Flaw 1 Exposed: Google algorithm can not determine what a natural seeded link is compared to what is a paid or webmaster prompted link (ie: directory/article sites).

I see endless MFA sites listing above qualified and authoritative sites. I see, time and time again, these same sites surpassing for example sites for governing bodies or trade organizations. You would think that a site such as the "European Leather Producers Association" (made up) with however many members would rank higher than a Leather MFA site. Flaw 2 Exposed: Google algorithm can not accurately differentiate between an authoritative site and a site gaming its own index/algo. They are unable to accurately synthesize the content of the site and accurately hand out the "importance" or "quality" score.

I could go on but I have debated this endless times and i'm sure you can find my posts on DP.

    ;)

    LaCabra, very well said.

Probably the bottom line is that we are dealing with an imperfect Google system (and algorithm?). Responding to that with 100%-white-hat SEO still seems to be the wise course. And I think that part (by no means all) of that SEO response is building good PR through aggressive link-gathering, as long as Google continues to rate PR as a part of search engine results.

I think it's just a matter of us webmasters staying flexible enough to react to an ever-evolving system.

    Again, well said.:)
