    While doing SEO in initial stages Directory submissions are very much usefull for building backlinks as much.

    Directory submission is useful to generate do follow backlinks for your site but we should submit our site in only high PR directory submission sites in relevant category.

    Most directory links in 2012 are practically worthless. There are a few high-powered directories — such as DMOZ and Yahoo! Directory, among others — that offer what I consider to be worthwhile links.

    I agree that directory submission is a method used few years back and was very much popular. Now Google wants to how better you have made a social circle on the web to consider you an authority on the web.

    Yes Directory submission is very old method, however it is still effective if done in a nice way. You should make the list of high PR directory sites and do submissions.

    Directory submissions are not something you should be worrying about anymore. They'll do more harm that anything. You can submit to quality directories like Yahoo and DMOZ, but even they aren't going to give you the juice you're looking for.
