What is the best book to walk me through the very basics of HTML and CSS? I would like this book simply written and reach in fundamental information.

Thanks in advance for all the answers

Head First CSS And HTML, cheap and great for newbies. Will walk you through the beginning....

To the above, sometimes(I'd say usually) it helps to have a hard cover to cement the fundamentals for you. W3Schools is best as a reference. Good luck! :)

I'd suggest "Build Your Own Website the Right Way Using HTML & CSS" by Ian Lloyd, first or second edition. Third edition is a pile of crap since it jumps on the HTML 5 re-re wagon, and at several points seems to ignore all the good advice the first book had.

... and again the re-re's pouring out of the woodwork pointing at W3Schools, one of the WORST places on the Internet for learning to do a damned thing. The ONLY good thing they have is that live editing/preview framesets, but when the information is out of date or just plain incorrect...

    Time for another intervention?

If you're the type of person that can easily learn "user-friendly" techie stuff then you don't have to buy anything. For HTML you can download KOMPOZER it's a FREE wysiwyg html software creator, very user-friendly and I think they also have a free guide about it. I've created many web pages using Kompozer and it also does not take up a lot of pc memory space. :)
