    Start with a good bit of regular custom content on your website as a good way to help your SEO. Post small but informative posts on a regular basis and don't use duplicate content. The next best thing you can do in my opinion is to start posting on forums with a signature. This ensure that you get a backlink strategy established. Use social bookmarking and social media sites as a third step. Those three steps will give you a solid off page SEO optimization beginning.

    first, learn about ON PAGE and OFF PAGE SEO.

    Do more on ON PAGE (make it a priority) then move to OFF PAGE (backlinking) later on

    After the onpage optimization you can now able to do social bookmarking, directory submission, blog commenting, forum posting and more and since your site is fresh and new don't overdo the link building just generate 40 to 50 links a day.

    After keyword research, and all of the on page SEO work is done, it's time for you to get into directories.

    In fact you might even consider getting a press release, if your site is brand new.

    The social marketing aspect is an ongoing process, and in a way, I would consider blogs a part of social media too...

    In fact everything you said is actually right on track. If you're able to write very well, then guest blogging is a great idea too.
