Most are setup to fail. They are given a crappy system or otherwise bad advice. To succeed at IM it takes exactly what it takes to succeed elsewhere in the business world. Don't let failure stop you, success is only followed by failures.. usually lots of failures.

I believe most fail due to discouragement.

Also, to excel at IM, test, test, test. I can't stress this enough. Before sinking money or most importantly, Time, make sure what your doing will actually make money first.

One thought i had and want to share here: You cant just buy ebooks, WSOs, just reading and reading and doing stuff mindlessly. You have to sit and think about all this and find something both interesting for you and something that will have potential to grow, and then focus and work like mad on it! And dont give up just because you havent seen imediate results! Stick to your plan and persist until you succeed

Lack of experience, knowledge and confident is responsible for making them looser.
But they have no idea about it,at the starting they are over confident on their job,
    and at last.................failed=0 result.

There are lot of reasons why many websites fail. One is the lack of knowledge and strategies. Knowing the ways on how to be a success website owner can help you create various kinds of strategies suitable to your business or the services that you offer in your website.

    In my opinion:
    #1 Time management.
#2 Fear of PPC and other paid traffic.
#3 Gross Disinformation from Uneducated teachers.
#4 Mainly........Time Management. You think that it can be done with 15 mins. per day.
    You are WRONG.
    Spend your valuable time wisely.

Everyone has made some very valid points, but the fact why people fail in business (online and off), boils down to not having the right mindset. Often people leave a job and start a business with their 'employee mentality' still in tactic. This leads to frustrations (putting it mildly) when people don't see a return on their investment quickly. Then all the shiny object stuff kicks in - people scramble around for a way to earn money fast.

If you want to succeed in business, then you need to recognize that it will take time. You need to focus on one thing and master that before moving on. It's ones state of mind that will ultimately determine success or failure.

I think this is a good recipe:

    1- Patience
    2- Knowledge
3- Dont believe anything you have not tested yourself.
4- Dont believe your own tests if they are a few months old.
    5- Smile :)

I agree that a lot of new players find it too easy to give up than to succeed. There is a long road that leads to the pot of gold, unfortunately you have to do most of the walking yourself! heh

Reasons why so many newbies fail:

    1) Not taking consistent action
    2) Giving up too easily
    3) Lack of focus...Going after every "shiny new system" that pops up in their email inbox...
    4) Not treating internet marketing as a REAL business...
    5) Information overload
    6) Fear of failure...Every successful internet marketer failed many, many times before they were successful...For every failure you really are one step closer to success.
    7) Not having the right mindset...Much of successful internet marketing comes from having the right mindset...You must program your mind for success.

Failure rate is high due to lack of research, and lack of interest. Earning online is not easy, and this is the basic thing that needs to be understood first.

So many newbies fail because they think everything they do is supposed to make them money and when it doesn't they give up and think that they can't do it.

    DON'T GIVE UP!!!
