    Like with most other SEO-related topics, there is no definitive answer. Just a bunch of people guessing based upon their experience. The only people who actually "know" the answer are the creators of the algorithms used by each search engine.... and they are not going to tell you!

    That being said, I have never seen any definitive evidence that a TLD can impact SERP.

    Domain extensions DO have effect on SEO and you should consider buying the .com if it is available. You can check the case studies done by SeoMoz to see how domain extensions affect rankings.

    It won't be a problem for small and medium competition niches but it's certainly a disadvantage.
