    Firstly, you'll need to have a large amount of followers. In order to keep followers , though, you should ,make useful posts, not just spam links.

    Twitter is the nice way to get popular, so you must follow the steps. Tweet regularly, Add twitter gadgets to your site and do not spam and also make reply to the tweets for the people you are following there by you can increase the traffic from twitter.

    Yeah, Twitter is your TOOL, not the way to get high traffic volume...l First of all, your SITE has to be interesting and stuff. Then get twi gadgets and let people spread the word.

    when you tweet use twitter's top trend words and tweet and use "#" tags with popular words.... if your post is interesting means then you will get more followers ...retweet , favorites etc

    Or post a lot and on popular subjects/hashtags, which increases the chance of your tweets to be found by non-followers just using twitter search

    Relevancy is one of the big factors to attract followers of the twitter to your site... your followers are not relevant to your website i guess..
