Need Help With cplinks PHP Script!

Discussion in 'PHP' started by ViciousSummer, May 16, 2005.

Help! I somehow managed to "break" the cplinks script I am using for my Lingerie Directory. Everything works perfectly except that the script no longer builds the main category pages. No error messages, it just hangs and never completes it. When I try to build a specific category this is what it says:

    "building the Accessories directory......"

That's it. But it never actual builds it. It's very strange because I can build the sub categories and everything else just fine...Does any one have any suggestions? Please :D?

Hey VS! I clicked your link and the directory built itself, but, the page itself never finishes loading. Did you change anything that might have created and infinite loop?

    Thanks for checking, Spidey :).

The link to my directory is just to show everyone what I'm sort of talking about here. It the internal script that won't build (or update) the category pages, such as this one:

    http://www.hustlerpanties.com/lingerie-directory/mens_underwear/

I have no idea what it could be since it will build/update every other page except for the main category pages...

Any one else have any ideas?

Try to check your mysql connection, and try to do a full 777chmod to the whole directory / files.

If the build still doesn;t work, try to do a reinstall, maintaining your database.

Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately it still doesn't work...arg.

I didn't do the reinstall because I'm having the exact same problem with another link directory ( www . viciousstyle . com/shopping ) I tried to set up on my other website. I even redownladed the cplinks script to set up the new one.

    This sucks...help!

I downloaded and had a look at "cplinks", and a fault in the program (scripts) would be hard to spot with out spending a lot of time with it.

But if it worked at one time for you, the fault may be in the contents of the data base rather than the code. Data bases can become corrupted so if you have phpMyAdimin availible to you browse the contents of your tables to see if every thing looks right

    Yes. Try this too.

Go into your Cpanel / PhpMyAdmin and try to check, then to repair the database.

If that still doesn't work, talk with your host.

I had the absolutely same problem with this script. On one host, the exact same script worked, on another not.

    Best of things

Thought about a bit more, and there may be nothing wrong with the scripts or your data base.

Why it is not working is in the server settings

The script you are running loops and reads the complete contents of one or more tables and gernerates outputs based on the results.

Your data base may have grown to the point that the memory required to complete the task is beyond the Resource Limits set on the server.

Have your brother look at the apache error logs to see if he can find something like the following
What he needs to find is "PHP Fatal error: Allowed memory size of " and path to your directory.

And if he finds it the true source of the problem has been uncovered

    Solution:

Have your brother edit the "php.ini" file to increase the limits, the area of concern looks like this
    My host has them set to "max_execution_time = 60" and "memory_limit = 16M"

After changing the settings Apache must be restarted for the new setting to take affect.

Actually depending how logging is set up, it may not show up in the error logs.

But appyling the fix suggested should do no harm, unless the server is lean on memory and very busy

Unfortunately, it still doesn't work like it's supposed to. The index page for each main category will not "build" anymore. Pretty weird. It ended up working to my advantage though because I just popped them all into Dreamweaver and now each one displays more targeted affiliate ads (before, the template made everything the same). Such as:

    vs

    http://www.hustlerpanties.com/lingerie-directory/holiday_lingerie/
