Be aware of this scammer tehnic

While selling text links on different forums (specially on DP) I found

out a good way scammers act. They are usually hired by a SEO company to

get them "Permanent links". We all knowns, that they can't offer any

guaranty for the permanent links they get... so this is what they do

    ...

They get into the Buy/Sell section and pretend they want to buy links.

They will usually PM you something like this.

    Please add my link code:
    <A href="http://www.one-briliant-site-they-nead-to-seo.com">Brilant

    WebSite </a>
and PM me your PayPal ID when you are done along with the link with

    code.

You usually send them your PayPal ID (or whatever payment method you

got) along with the link. They will give the link to the SEO Firm hired

them , and you will never heard of them again , neither of seeing money

    in your PayPal.

    So...

Sellers be aware, and not let some craps steal your time, and a seo

company (that hired them) money and reputation.
Buyers be aware! You can hire somebody pretending he will get back links for you ... but they will get them into a very bad way and your reputation can be compromised. Also most of the links wont stay up for more then a few days/weeks.

    Thanks

Good post Softgroups, definately worth baring in mind. Many people get scammed in similar ways to this and I dare say many more are going to fall victim. I'm just glad that since I'm aware, I'm not going to be one of them, I hope!

I don't understand? So you put up his link as requested then he doesn't pay up? Just remove the link and you're at no great loss.

Well, first of all you loose your time and you get some nervs. the problem with them is that they try to cheat you ... usually they don't ask to "his link" he ask to put somebody else link (a person who hired him for link building) so that person will be fooled, he will get lot's of PR4/PR8 backlinks, will be very happy , will pay him , and after that the links will disappers.
I made this post to let you known to be aware in both of cases. As a buyer and as a seller, and also if you intention to hire a person (without to much backwork records) for getting you links.
Because an wanna be,will apply this tehnic , get's lot's of "stolen" links for you , you will be amzaed/impressed, you will pay him a few hundrets (saying "Good deal, i couldn't get this links somewhere else without 5000$) , and he will ruine your reputation (people will remember your website all over the webmasters related websites as "Ohhh that guy who don't like to pay") +++ will cheat you with some money (because those backlinks will get down when the seller will recive he was cheated)

I'm quite new here and seems like I have not met any scammers yet. No bad experience yet whatsoever and of course, if you initiate respect to members, I guess good karma will come as well.

A good practice though is to be cautious as well. iTrading feedbacks is a good basis and if in doubt, be respectful is speaking your mind. From my experience, I told one member without itrader ratings that I hope he can give me the benefit of the doubt and send half of the payment before I start the project. It all went well and he got his 1st itrader feedback from me.

    respect and doubt

    my two cents

Well...what can you do about it?
You could only ask them to pay upfront.

that's a good point, softgroups, and one of the reasons why my company pays it's linkbuilders with a week delay and if they are doing something like this, and I have caught some, then they won't be working for us for long

They even send emails like you said to polish webmasters. I personally got 3 emails asking me to put link on my sites.
Problem is bigger than you think. They try everywhere. If somebody is less experienced usually agrees to 'the offer'

Good info and dead on with what I've read on the net too. That's why I have problems with purchasing links from some people... I'd love to find credible users to deal with when purchasing links as I need to purchase some soon lol

    Thanks for the info!
