Definitely there is some truth in this article. Google wants to separate business from valuable information content, what is good for google users but bad for us, IM's. It is true, it is very hard nowadays to rank for a keyword that has high buyer intent, and even if you succeed, the traffic will be poor ( if you compare it with traffic for the same keyword 2 years ago). People who have intention to buy, will rather click paid ads, that's in human nature. But you don't have to rank for a keyword like "buy iPad", rather than that you can rank for a keyword like "iPad honnest review", you provid value through blog and send your visitors to your squeeze pages or affiliate links, but definitely you have to give your visitors a discount or a free gift, in other words, you have to give them something, or they will leave and left you hanging.

As for PPC. PPC represent 80% of my income stream. It is very powerfull traffic source if you know how to use it. The future and wealth of IM is in PPC. Remember that

It would make sense for Google to try to eliminate organic search, because then everyone would be doing more PPC, which Google makes money off of. However, if they did eliminate it, other search engines would become more popular, and Google would basically have blown up their own company. So in short, no I don't see this ever happening.

"The click-through rate of paid search advertisements on Google now outnumbers 'free' organic search result listings by nearly a 2:1 ratio for high commercial intent keyword searches conducted in the U.S.,"

if it is true, it can only mean one thing - google purposely shows unrelated (i.e. non-comercial) natural search results to promote clicking on the ads!

Others search engines will become more popular for IM's, not for users, who are searching for valuable information. They will stick with Google. And if someone demands quality traffic, will be paying for that users to visit their offer. There is no fear for Google to lose domination. They know what they are doing and with latest updates they made their domanation even stronger.

I think you are right. This is very much in the cards. I only can wish that this never happens. Do you think there is any other search engine that can compete Google? Bing and Yahoo are just the names to remember.I am afraid to say no one remembers Bing or Yahoo in real time use.

Google is trying to make it hard to rank in Organic results. Its reducing importance of the factors which SEO persons generally rely on to get higher search engine rankings and that's directly increasing the popularity of PPC. People are always willing to see instant results for their marketing efforts and they're switching to PPC for the same reason.

IMHO, if people starts seeing that Google search results are becoming more irrelevant day by day, people will look for other venue for searching.... SEO is not for Google alone, many visitos will not be happy with google if the moment irrelevant searches increases, the paid google ads occupies half of the search engine results page.

Google do not make it hard to rank for a specific keyword, it's the improvement to the quality of the pages in the index that make it harder to rank highly for competitive terms

Earlier this week Ive started getting a decent amount fo traffic from Bing and Yahoo...right about the same time when google did the algo update. Not that this has anything to do with the op. BUT when I search google for those keywords...the results are completely irrelavent to the keyword. I would like to think folks are migrating to other search engines rather than just google.

They're not gonna kill organic seo. Without natural results there would be no search engine, and thus no paid ads :)

Organic SEO uses some simple and ethical tricks to make your website or sites appeal to the algorithms and spiders used by Google and other major search engines. Also, Organic SEO increases search engine rankings and can effectively block your competitors' online presence.
