I've got a mens magazine type business i'm looking to sell, subpages rank pretty high and its pretty authoritative, should i bother trying to get it DMOZ listed before flipping it?

It would not hurt to submit to the best category one time. Though any more time spent there is wasted. Many/most suggestions take sometime between never and ever to be listed....and even those that eventually do get listed often get little to nothing out of it. About the only people that use the ODP these days are webmasters thinking it's the link of links, and editors who don't care all that much about webmasters. The end users of the ODP now use Google...

The answer is NO, no webmaster worth its salt cares about a link in some directory ghost town snapshot of 2003.

It is really hard to get listed in DMOZ. I tried several times for three websites, but failed. If it does not help for SEO, I will not try again.

The value of directories as a whole has dropped over the last few years to nearly nothing. The ODP is no different. While it does have a higher PR then most, it also is a haven for duplicate content and dead/dropped links. Some categories still enjoy some perks, as some are still actually used, but MOST (and by most I mean nearly all) are never looked at by human eyes (including the eyes owned by editors).

If you have submitted ONCE, that is all you will ever need to do. Now that that is done, move one to bigger and better ways of site promotion.

DMOZ is so much time consuming site. It takes time around 4-6 months for approval any site link. So according to me its not good.

Well said! Follow his advice. Try, then you will fail, never try again. While you are trying perhaps ride an exercise cycle or do something of value so your time trying to get a listing on a 1980's directory site will not be a complete waste of your time!

If there is no value to get listed in the 1980's directory then why people is still doing it.

because those same old webpages that say it's worthy are still being read, and believed, and quoted, and copied/pasted into new sites.

Less and less value for the webmaster, I hope, it will then stop them complaining they don't get listed quick enough. The directory exists for the surfer who wants categorised data and we hope to provide it. So please keep putting webmasters off from seeking listings and therefore from asking how long will it take or DMOZ must be corrupt because my site was not listed overnight, I think it will help the DMOZ editing community a great deal.Thanks.

I could not agree more! In fact, I'll go that extra mile and say to not only keep putting webmasters off of the ODP, but to also simply ignore it exists, everyone else does...

The only people that will not agree that the ODP needs better communication would be the ODP ;)

I disagree, they should not do anything to imply or infer that they have any more relevance than they do (little to none)

Here is what happens, they start actually committing to a communication strategy, then the 14 active editors actually have to do that on top of the 43 million submissions they have to delete/ignore everyday from people like you who think that DMOZ is anything other than DOS 2.0 on the Web.

What they should do is end the sham,

The Horse is dead.............get off off it!

    You are funny!

DMOZ is a volunteer project for people who want to collect and collate sites as one of their hobbies. Editors are not interested in offering listings for their owners benefit and we are still following our interests and hobbies to offer data for those who wish to use collated data for internet searches by offering free access, with accreditation, to anyone who wants to duplicate our data, as hundreds of sites do.

No more no less and as such DMOZ is alive and well and performs that function as a fascinating hobby for me and hundreds of other editors. Pity you could not pass the entrance exam.

Pity the ODP wont list worthy sites in favor of having sites that break multiple guidelines and defended by the editing community...
Pity the ODP has editors that talk bad about those they serve
Pity that the ODP wont bother to complete their own application process to allow potential editors know they have been rejected
Pity that the ODP refuses to communicate with their end users
Pity that the company that owns the ODP even allows it to still exist after the way it's being run at this moment in time.
Pity that the ODP is no longer what it used to be.

You are the definition of everything that is wrong with DMOZ at the moment, and its truly a pity that it's something you are proud of.

WOW, funny how you are speaking for the entire editing community again... are you saying that Skenta had his twenty thousand deep links added to the ODP for something other then his own self interest?

Pttth... and you say I post misleading things. at least I am not putting words in peoples mouths or speaking for thousands of people that I never met.

    Again, it's a pity...

He (She) merely expressed an opinion, its YOU who claims he (she) is speaking for the entire community. As usual, a twist here, a twist there......then the usual bleat about Skrenta (lol). You really are so predictable:)

Yes,yes, indeed. I am the one misleading people into thinking that IT was speaking for the entire editing community when IT said "EDITORS" not SOME editors, or MOST editors, or a COUPLE of editors, but EDITORS. My bad for twisting things around when I just call it like it's happening. LOL

Good catch on that one... and nice try TWISTING it back on me. When it comes to bending reality you and a few of the other editors here could really use a few pointers, as in this case anyone that read what Anonymously said would have caught exactly what I posted... well, anyone but you it seems.

Keep pointing out where I am twisting things though, the world needs more comic relief, and you are doing an outstanding job at it.
