Google and duplicate images

Discussion in 'Google' started by lapidus, Mar 9, 2012.

    Hello to everybody

I have one very important question about Google and duplicate images on websites.

Example if i have gallery on my website and people can submit images via submit form, and if somebody sumbit image which is already on Google he will considered
that like a duplicate content or no?

I know that Google hate duplicate text content, but what will happend if he found duplicate images?

Did search engines can penalize my site?

Or maybe this is solution: If i put image from other site i must link that image to that site? Is that clear then or no?

    Thanks

If the image file name is different with a different alt tag, should be ok

Do you use another ALT tag ?
If your images is the same name, use your different ALT tags, it's ok

Using a complete description by using the Alt tag won't hurt in this regard.

I see duplicate images in Google all the time. I would use a keyword variation in the alt tag and use a different file name and maybe re-size the image. I don't think you would get a penalty because Google has no way of knowing who actually owns the image. You should make sure there is plenty of unique content on that page.

It was not any problem. But after post penguin period, it has become tough to be sure which one will be penalized by google. I am trying to stay in safe place as much as possible. Regarding image, I am not sure but found same images in many different sites in different name. Probably this is not a big issue.

To check if an image is a copy. Go to Google image search and click on the camera icon. Upload the image or type in the URL. Google will search to see if that image exists elsewhere. One thing you should be worried about is if someone loads up a copyrighted image from an agency. The agencies do a lot of searching to find out if people are illegally using their images and will threaten you with legal actions. Good luck!

Do image optimisation, put some alt tags related to your website. Till other website person to whom you taking image is not claiming copyright for image, it will be fine for you.

Yes doing image optimization and choosing new name and alt tag can solve your biggest problem of duplicate content or text.
