Quotes requested for a redevelopment of an existing site into a wordpress site. ChessBaron.co.uk is an ecommerce site that has been hand coded from the start. It uses PHP, JS, mySQL, JQuery, etc. The ideal person is someone that is looking for another project and that is very good at customising Wordpress. As a guide, I need to keep this project under $1K. It needs to be re-written into a format that means products can be edited, added an deleted easily, rather than uploaded by a spreadsheet which currently happens. This needs to be wordpress. The eCommerce plugin cost won’t be included in the amount paid to you – I’ll pay the extra amount for it separately. The site should be pretty much a replica of what it now looks like, with the same elements present throughout. Please look at the sitemap to see the key pages: http://www.chessbaron.co.uk/sitemap.php. Some challenges here are: 1. The video elements on the front page, the sliding picture shows on every page, the typing testimonials – all need to be the same, or at least very similar. 2. The URL’s need to be the same, including the URL’s for each individual product page. If this is impossible because of WP’s structure, then a comprehensive 301 direct needs to be implemented in the htaccess file. 3. The payment pages use Google Checkout and SagePay. This should be retained, as well as the way checkout is currently performed. The customer should have an option to login and register for an account, but it must not be mandatory. They should be allowed to checkout without a ChessBaron account. The checkout needs to be easy and simple, with the same number of screens that we currently use from selection to checkout. NOTE: Please consider this part carefully before you consider quoting for it. I’ve played with WP plugins – they’re all difficult to customise, and I don’t want a straight-jacket for checking out – it’s a very important part of the customer process. 4. There is an existing blog attached to the site – this needs to be retained – it can be either retained as a separate WP blog (which it is already), or included as part of the new WP. A widget on the ChessBaron front page displays the latest few blog entries, which needs to be retained or re-engineered. 5. The orders section. We only access that by login. It contains all orders received, we enter the tracking number and we click a button that send an email to the customer if they provided their email address in the order. 6. The ‘Best selling’ section on the left of the home page is determined by actual sales with some skewing for demoting products such as chess computers. You could re-use existing code for this. But it’s an important part of the existing site. Extra’s to the existing site Some things that aren’t on the existing site that are required are: a) A voucher system. We want to able to offer a single use voucher to be able to email to people who we target for sales or perhaps existing customers. b) To be able to do email marketing. c) We need to import all existing orders into the system from the existing DB. We don’t need all the information – just enough to be able to perform email marketing with those customers. Payments to you, the developer As you can see, I have excellent feedback. One reason for this is that I always pay on time – I’ve always had a good relationship with developers I‘ve worked with. But I’ve also lost money on projects because developers wanted money up front and have dropped the project, or have proved to be not up to the job. So, I won’t pay anything up front. But I will provide stage payments along the way as milestones are reached. If you are lazy, please don’t apply. If you disappear for days and can’t be reached via phone or skype, please don’t apply. This is obviously a big project. I hope whoever get this job, he really will get the job done and not just quit in the middle of things. Good luck on finding a programmer, choose wisely.
