I have a site that has been on the first page of google and the others for the most relevant keywords and has been there for at least five years. I have done very little recently to the site and with the google changes recently, I have been a little afraid to do much. About five days ago I submitted links to about 10 high PR directories. In just the last two days, my site has dropped from #5 for a HUGELY important keyword to the top of the second page! Walmart, potterybarn, ebay, jc penny and a few other giants are now above me. I am getting really tired of trying to compete with these people. I'm a small business and don't have the deep pockets they do. Is there anything I can do FAST to get back not only on the first page, but at the top of the first page? Would someone be willing to look at my site and tell me what they think? I can PM you the URL, I don't want this showing in the SERs, thanks anyone in advance!
Hi Ann, without looking into the site I cannot tell you what is the problem. Also do post or send the date your web traffic dropped in your web analytics (Google analytics) data.
You make have been struck by an algorithm change. Check your backlinks profile to see if it was the Penguin update. If not, then check your content to see if it was the latest Panda update. Are you experiencing the same in all search engines or just on Google?
It may be you used similar anchors in all 10 high PR directories your used.I guess you paid for those links(not sure just assuming, sorry if I am wrong)then the links are already live and have got indexed too.Google is smart these days.Modify the anchors.Diversifying links may work. Keep track of Google Webmasters too. They may notify you over there as well.
