what type of techniques do you believe are the most effective in generating backlinks to any website?

 

Participate and comment in blogs and forums related to your site. Article writing and guest writing on blogs help too.

 

get only few links but from authority sites.

Esolution, im sorry I really dont agree with you. PR does help but it is not the end all. You should aim your sites on linking from pages that mirror your own content and niche. Do not concentrate solely on pagerank. Relevancy wins in the game of backlinking. Google penguins pretty much saw to that.

If you place a link on page about cats and your site is about physics, then you run the risk of your link being ignored by google. You might as well put in the time and effort and post on topic related sites and pages.
Also make sure that your on page SEO is up to scratch. SEO starts with your content, something alot of people seem to forget.

get backlinks from related site that has low OBL and higher than your PR if possible

 

don't try to get a backlink from a high PR site that the high PR site itself have so many outbound link pointing to many sites .

it's better if u get a little bit lower PR site but has a little out going link from itself

There is not single effective way , There is to important way , Quality content with Quality backlinks.

 

Guest posting sites= great link juice massive traffic to your website
social bookmarking= rankings change
directory submission= ranking change
article directory submission= ranking change + traffic
web 2.0 submission= both

 

Of course links from high PR sites are good, but the links you get from "Related" sites are best.

 

Good old high PR Blog posts never stopped being effective, you just have to vary the anchor text now.
