Uhm, I don't know how long this is the case already but google.de now forces using the Google Safe Search filter, it can't be turned off like on google.com. Also many many legitimate results showing on google.com are filtered on google.de what's going on with Google

    Wtf? Really?
Well, so far I have never ever seen this Safe Search feature on google.de, always just on google.com
Didn't know that there even WAS the option, to turn it on/off...

Well on google.com you just go to preferences and turn off the safe search filter, newsgroup results often get better then. On google.de the option is set to high filtering and can't be turned off. A very "sick" example that this is total nonsense is shown by this example:
Go to the groups search on google.de and enter "warez". This word is filtered and no results are displayed. When you enter "child porn" you get the full list of results like on google.com. So what the heck is going on with Google?

The results may be geotargeted in their censorship.

There was a story about French and German goverments seeking to censor Google search for Neo-Nazi material - try searching for Neo-Nazi lit within and without Germany, and see if there's IP targeting of censorship.

Primed by another popular thread here frequented by devious and usually tipsy Scots, for just a moment I thought that read "Neo-Nazi git"...

I agree. But is it possible it wasn't Google's idea? Look at that French blogger being dragged into court at the public expense because some politician is unhappy with comments critical of the administration posted in the blog... I'm wondering if there wasn't pressure from the German government...
