I have purchased several sites from Flippa. Those that I have dealt with were honest. However, as with anything, be cautious.

You can buy great domains from dozens or even a few hundred different websites. What matters is the quality and amount of domains the site has for sale. But ultimately it's not the site that counts; it's the domain you pick. And if you're not sure what makes a great domain or a fair price, I suggest hiring somebody who does. I evaluate domains day in and day out and manage a portfolio of 10,000 plus. Even if none of my domains fit your needs, I can act as a domain scout and get you a better domain for less money than you can yourself.

    Shameless self-promotion over.

Here are some good sites if you trust your own judgment:

    GoDaddy Auctions
    Sedo
    BuyDomains
    CAX
    and many many more

From general word of mouth sedo gives you the highest chance of a sale, however they charge 10-20% commision with a minimum of U$50. I would therefore not look there for cheap domains.
My best place for buying domains was godaddy auctions so far.

Nowadays, Namecheap is getting more popular than Godaddy for domain registrations after the SOPA case.

seems like the OP has got us confused the way he words his question: 'best domain selling site' 'best for buying domains'! the latter is what he means...

price-wise and trustworthiness, then godaddy. however, if you are thinking about auctions or expiring domains then it may be down t opersonal preference.

Godaddy is good because it gets a lot of traffic and it's easy because if you register your domains at Godaddy, you can just transfer them right to someone else's Godaddy account.

NameCheap is pretty much the default registrar for techies. Everyone else uses GoDaddy because of those stupid ads. Also, I've heard too many stories about GoDaddy to trust them with my portfolio.

I started out using Godaddy because of the discount codes they have and everyone seemed to be using them. Problem is when renewal comes they are so expensive. Their dashboard OMG don't get me started, they try to flog every bit of upselling and it's so annoying to wade through.
A tech friend of mine put me onto namesilo and they are awesome. Simple dashboard, great price $8.99 and you also get free privacy protection which Godaddy charge extra for. Names are activated super fast after purchase too. You also get domain protection free.
You can get $1 discount using the coupon luck71 reducing the price too $7.99.

I use GoDaddy as well. It is a great site i think. As long as you ignore the up sells. Most of them are useless IMO.

Even before the SOPA thing, I didn't like GoDaddy at all. They try to milk money out of you for everything. NameCheap is much simpler. You want to buy a domain name-okay, then pay-now here's your domain name.

With GoDaddy, it's more like this:

you want to buy a domain name? okay
do you want email service for another $25,000 per month?
how about website templates for for 34 bajillion dollars per month?
nope, just want a domain name.
well how about extra security service for some extraordinary overpriced amount?
    nope just domain name.
well why didn't you say so?
    here's your domain name.
    thanks.
don't worry, we'll send you emails every week with the same annoying questions!
    I can't wait....
