Yea I have two keywords I have been targeting to get on the first page and I finally got them there but I'm not getting any hits.... one is ranked #9 this keyword gets 5400 searches a month and my other keyword is ranked #7 and gets 9,900 searches a month.. I just don't understand it whats the point of working hard to get ranked on the first page when you won't get clicks anyways. I probably get 1 to 2 clicks a day counting both keywords... Can someone please explain?

It's discouraging when you finally get to the first page and you still don't get that many clicks. One thing to keep ion mind is that most clicks still only come from the top 4 or 5 search results in search engines. Think about when you search on Google. You can usually find a relevant option in the top 3 and you just go right to one of those. I think it's something like the top 3 search results receive 60% of clicks on search engines. So honestly I would keep trying to move up the rankings trying new link building and traffic building techniques. Also try landing for some other keywords that might land you in the top 3 or 4 for those particluar keywords. Do a little research on longtail keywords that you can dominate on Google. Your better off dominating a few niche longtail keywords than going for the very general ones with more competition. A good stat to remember is that 43% of all searches done on the web comprise of four or more words. 64% of searches no exact match. So look into adding a few words onto your keywords and maybe you can rank high for those. Good luck!

That might be a good idea, But will that give me better traffic, if there long tailed keywords they probably don't get as much traffic...

I would carry on trying to rank higher and like jwarnimo said most of the time people visit the first few links on Google. Don't only rely on SEO, try other marketing methods such as Social networking, offline marketing such as leftleting. One of them will eventually bring in the visitors.

First of all, congratulation on your success.

If your site link is not on the top 5 then you can't expect more clicks. Normally what we do? We check in google with our desired keywords and we click almost top 3. But how often we go to the next page? I have read in a SEO blog that if your keyword is on the top of google then you can expect 90% organic traffic to your site. If it's in position 2 then 50-70% chance is there, if it's in 3rd position then chances are 30%-50% and if it's 6-10th then you can expect 1-10% clicks.

You didn't mention about local or global search. I am assuming it's global search. So, you can expect 54-540 clicks in a month you can get from google to your site.
    Hope this will help you.

It might be that Google Adwords visitors count is incorrect. Often times it shows too many or too few searches. Nobody knows why this is but it happens all the time. A different approach might be to first do some CPC (Adwords) to see if there are people searching for this and how conversions are before investing heavily into SEO...

    5400 is not much ;) let's make a quick calculation ;)

25% of them will never click a link (they just search for anything and don't click anywhere -> IT IS NORMAL!) -> That is 1350
    So 5400-1350 = 4050
Over 50% of them would click on the first 3 results (*according to what you said, you are on 9th place, so this would be -2025 searches)
2025 let's say about 3% of them would click on your website -> That is 61 visitors PER MONTH in average which should be about 2 visitors per day (so it is normal to get about 2-3 visitors per day...)

What I would like to suggest you is that you should try to rank for keywords with 50k+ searches per month (of course it is harder, but these 2-3 visitors can increase to 50,60 ;))
