Linking to copyright material on video sites?

Discussion in 'Guidelines / Compliance' started by wwfc_barmy_army, Nov 18, 2006.

If i am only linking to copyright material on popular video sites (such as youtube) is it against their policies?

I received a email from them saying that my site was breaking their policy and they have blocked the site in question from earning because of the above. Any advice?

Any alternatives similar to adsense (except the yahoo one as i don't live in the US so i can't join) that i can try?

    Thanks.

Yeah, I doubt linking a youtube video would be against TOS... Linking to hardcore midget porn...Now that's a different story.

On Youtube it says you need the copyright to upload videos, so when you link to to a youtube video you just assume they got the copyright for it. Nothing wrong here.

Thanks guys. The exact email was:
I have replied saying that no copyright material is hosted by us and we simply link to videos on popular video sites.

We are linking to copyright material by using the links given by the popular video sites so that you can link to the videos.

    What do you think?

It is good that you aren't banned. Do what they will say in reply and maybe it will be good to post this here, that others can see what the problem is.

    Thanks.

If you still haven't removed the ads, you are crazy, seriously, unless you want to get banned!

    Peace,

Just linking to youtube videos is allowed.

Showing in your page youtube videos that are obviously copyrighted is not allowed.

Wait a minute, people can't put YouTube videos on their blogs or webpages? What's with all that Share This Video stuff then? I know the videos are still hosted by YouTube & just linked up by the webpages, but is that not even allowed? Or am I missing something?

If Google is now hammering their publishers for linking to copyrighted videos, they're going to catch all kinds of crap from the internet community that's now addicted to video content. Those billions they spent to buy YouTube will come to seem the biggest waste of cash in history.

Since YouTube is owned by Google, have they reached the height of hypocrisy to say it's okay for them to host other people's videos, but not for us little people to actually link to them? Ludicrous.

Lol, It's a link to it, youtube supply you with a link where you can link to the video, they even supply you with a link so you can show it actually on your site.

I 100% agree with your last comment, they can host copyright videos and show them but we can't even link to them..

My understanding is that you are not allowed to show google adsense on pages that show copyrighted materials on results pages.

Ie a search for videos on your site etc.

Thats my take on the TOS.
