For me it's Xenforo - simply because it's easy for my members to use and easier for me and my moderator teams to manage (I've previously used vB 3.8.4 [refused to use vB 4] and IPB Suite 3.1.4).

XenForo. Still new, maybe immature, but amazingly easy to use and so little 'bloat' compared to others. I have purchased 3 licenses in just 3 months and am seriously considering moving my 4 Vbulletin forums to it

I'll also toss in my support for XenForo. vBulletin used to be the de facto standard back in the days, but they dropped the ball with vB4. I was looking for an exit strategy, and then learnt about XenForo on their own forums, and have been a staunch supporter ever since.

It's actually made me enjoy being a forum admin again. It's by far the user-friendliest for your end-users, but as an admin, your tasks are also made a lot easier. Removing spam couldn't be easier, and the security system handles things on a "minimal effort" basis, making sure you can quickly set up permissions that bubble on through by means of usergroups, rather than having to set them individually for every group for every forum. It's also extremely easy to install and style, even for beginners.

Should you require any assistance, we are a leading XenForo Services provider, and would be happy to help out with any issues you might run into :)

    Best,

    Peter

I voted Vanilla! They have a new open source edition coming out very soon (soon to be in beta) that will blow you away.

LoL, I was just being sarcastic really, but yea I think they have some good ideas. I'm afraid that when I looked deeper at it, I found that a lot of the excitement was hype.

I voted mybb. I have used many different forum software but mybb is easy to use and has good mod support and of course its free. It depends on what you want to do and how big your user base will become, stability and security is smart. phpbb would be recommended for larger communities.SMF is okay but I still like mybb.

    Hi :)
I use SMF 2.0.2 and I must say that I am happy with it. In my opinion, SMF is the best "free forum software" that one can find on the internet. The most important advantages that I find with SMF is that they are expanding rapidly. Since it is an open source and light software, the number of people using SMF is increasing day by day and the number of mods is also increasing at a steady rate. Further more, we get good support at simplemachines.org. At simple machines, we get the chance to discuss things directly with the coders of their respective mods. Also, SMF is compatible with mobile users using WAP. And I think SMF would prove to be the best in the log run, after the release of some more versions (Just like wordpress did). These facts force me stick with SMF.

However if you are ready to spend money on the forum software, I would suggest using Vbulletin. It has the best quality among paid forum software. Everyone likes the look and feel  of a VBulletin forum .

IPB and Vanilla is the best 2 softwares.
They are modern and easy to manage, customize also.

vBulletin is too heavy now, i'd like recommend vB only it's still in 3.x
