Hi All Im not sure if this is the best foryum for this, but if it needs to be moved I understand. Ive got an idea for a site and wanted your feedback and if it would work. Basically, a visitor would be able to come to the site and post something. Either a story, recipe, link, joke, picture, poem, rant or anything at all. Almost like a blog, but you could post into different categories along with other people who have submitted to that category. Almost like a forum, but not quite a forum as such. The original visitor would submit something and others can post comments about it. It would almost be like an article site but not just articles.... Do you understand what I mean? Do you think it would work?
It sounds like a good idea, and that it has the potential to work, but the main part here is getting it finished, which could be quite hard. But go for it, I think that it's a cool idea!
I dont think it would be too hard to organise. I have the idea of offering people who add something the option to add a banner to their page. The banner could be an ad for their own website or blog, or it could be adsense or yahoo or bidclix or whatever. I think it would be a good way to entice people to add stuff. Im not sure if I would make it for members only to add something or let anyone add something. Obviously, membership would have its benefits for me as the owner but it may hold back people adding stuff.
I think I would steer clear of a wiki. Cant say Im a huge fan of em.... But thats a good idea anyway.
Id also be interested in what words you would like to see in the domain name.... All help is appreciated.
Sorry if I'm not understanding the concept correctly but it seems like it could just turn in to a free for all dumping ground.
It sounds like free for all dump ground to me too. It could be a great idea if you had an edge kinda like myspace had. Something to offer your users, that makes them come back. Myspace allows people to locate other people with similar interests, or help find an old friend. Cardomain.com has a nice portal which allows users to show off their car. Forums tend to be a place for people with similar interests like webmastering, world domination, or watch collecting. If it is pre-screened, than what use is it to your audience users? There is no imediate self gradification for them. I had a great car themed directory once. I let anyone submit a link and I was so excited to be an editor. It was eventially over run with foreign language spam, and other totally web-bot autosubmit spam. Eventially the database was hacked and I lost it all
Yeah - we are not trying to be overly critical, but what WiBu is pointing out is there seems to be no focus, so it is difficult to give much more guidance.
What I would probably offer is the person who submitted something to have their own ad on their submission, whether its Google, YPN or anything else... I want to review each submission to avoid SPAM etc, but also to spell check and put the submission into a specific category.
Wordpress can do this VERY easily. Too cut down on SPAM and admin would have to approve posts. Nice idea, I like it (would have paid you some money for the idea if you hadnt posted it). Good luck.
Rather than saying "...would have paid you some money..." - why not work with the guy and help him get it off the ground. Invest the money you "would have paid" into making it real.
Possibly, however this idea can be copied VERY easily (actually the site could be set up in a matter of minutes). The development and initial advertising (pre-launch buzz) would have to be put in motion before the idea is released.
I was thinking of maybe using RealCiritcs.com Although makeapost.com does sound good. With RealCritics.com, I could promote it as: "Add something and Real People will review it, critic it, rate it!" or some sort of catchy line...
That sounds good if people were posting poems and other creative sorts, but when people may possibly posting a random funny image, there isnt must to critique. Its more of commenting, which is different than critique. good luck.
Sounds like a fairly good idea, if of course you targeted the site to a specific audience and not to the general public.
