You may be right for megacompetitive words or phrases, but in our space, which is still competitive (wildlife shows, reptile shows and the like), which globally account for millions of searches a year, new sites (newly created domains) regularly show up on page one of serp's (rarely top) with minimal SEO.I see them come, watch them and then they dissappear, the usual result being a return to the status quo of the most optimized url's fighting for places on page one.But yes, Google definitely treats their results differently depending on how competitive the word string is.I find for the less competitive strings, on page SEO becomes more important in relativity, but that may be a perception rather than reality. Others here may enlighten (me), us further. All the bestSnakeman

No website owner in their right mind will "like" Google's sandbox. However, a smart website owner will use the sandbox as an opportunity to build a website that Google simply cannot refuse.

Great info, I have never even heard of this concept until now, I will have to do some more research into it and find if any of my targeted keywords are in the sandbox

This is a great thread and highly relevant to me these days. I completely agree on your opinions claiming that a Google sandbox exists. I have had similar experience with most of my sites when I set them up. First, for a short period of time, they ranked unnaturally well. Then, all of a sudden, they almost disappeared from the search results. After more or less 4-9 months of creating content and building links they returned to rank for the targeted results. This pattern could be observed with many of my websites.

Now, I have made a new experience. After the last update of the Google algorithm, many of my keywords on established websites seem to have been sandboxed again. They completely disappeared from the search results. I used to have good search results for these keywords for years and even Google Panda update did not harm my rankings. Yesterday, I saw many of my websites disappear from the SERPs for their main keywords.

Is this a new form of sandbox, Google has developed/activated? According to what criteria does it put sites/keywords in the sandbox? How to get out of it again?

Thank you for statements and suggestions.

I don't believe sandbox is only way to increase rank.

What you say is true. If the first page shows only PR 0 links then getting a new post to the front page would be easy. However, when dealing with root URLs with PR 1 and higher then they are typically well established for the keyword.
