I just realized that there are a lot of directories that cheat and use the rel=nofollow tag. I discovered this by using the SEO for Firefox plugin. does anyone have anymore directories that do this. I'm compiling a list.

    the first one is http://seo-supreme.com/

Yeah directories like that are ass! I don't think there's point to a directory, even for the owner, if they're going to be a cheatass like that.

Yeah, I agree. If you haven't paid for the listing, then I don't think you have any room to complain.

No-follow links get indexed the same they just don’t count to PR, and you can get traffic.

I have found that if you bring it to the directory owners attention, that you can often change their mind about using nofollow.

The directory owners use it to hoard PR. However, in so doing they miss out on a lot of free links they would've gotten that carry traffic and power.

I've recently converted about 10 directories that were previously removed from Info Vilesilencer for using nofollow.

If you compile a list I will be interested in taking a look at it, from the perspective of convincing the owners to change their strategy.

    Hello..

I will agree that there is NO need to go to thier site......but then what of those that DONT explain?

Should they just be dismissed?.......... Not!

Its not fair in my eyes as a link directory was made to give and recieve links.
When an owner decides to take such distasteful tactics then it only see it Fair to make a little LIST of those.

I see absolutly no need to do an act like this in the first place.

    thx

If links are offered for free, they are done so in good faith. Those who submit for free at the beginning are helping to build the directory. If it's stated up front that they are nofollow, then fine, but changing the links afterwards shows a lack of integrity and acumen.

I really don't understand nofollow quite well.

Ok, say there is page A ------------> 100 Links 0 Nofollow

    Then page B ----------------------->100 Links 50 Nofollow

Does google count 50 or 100 links on page b. I mean I understand it won't follow the 50 nofollow ones, but do they get counted.

No, they won't. Nofollow specifically tells Google to ignore that link when it comes to calculating PR.

I believe you are confusing PR calculation with spidering. Google will still follow the link and spider it, provided there are other links on the internet pointing to that page. It just won't assign any pagerank value to it from the nofollowed link.

I've to double check before submissions if they do such things.

    Thanks for sharing!
